portrait session
Photography is a collaborative endeavor, and part of the magic and joy of the process involves good doses of patience, timing, and humor. It is a tool for play and creativity that in the case of portrait making, relies on the dynamic of whomever is in front of, behind, and near the camera.
My style is documentary in nature, and I prefer to record the "in between" moments - the impressionistic essence of a gesture, a glimpse, or an interaction - which often reveal nuances of personality and character. This approach and aesthetic are geared toward those who wish to move beyond the traditional studio portrait and toward candid and casual encounters that unfold before the camera.
The choice of location for a
photo session can vary from
client to
client, and I
recommend that it be a place where the subject is
most comfortable. For infants or young children,
the familiarity and convenience (especially for parents) of home can
lead to a more relaxed and natural situation for all involved. Due
to the photographer's allergies, feline-free zones are
preferred, though exceptions will be made for brief sessions.
I work with 35mm black-and-white film and use existing light without the use of flash. Minimal equipment provides ease of mobility and fewer distractions.
